Mary Studevant, M.B.A., pulls from her previous career experiences in the federal government to serve as a part-time faculty member responsible for coordination and training delivery at the Virginia Executive Institute.

Her training experience includes cultural competency, leading group decision-making, communication, meeting management, and problem-solving and decision-making. Mary joined VCU’s PMG in 2003 after retiring from the Department of Defense.

As the deputy director of the support services directorate, she oversaw strategic planning/balance scorecard, public affairs, quality of life and protocol functions for the commander. Prior to that position, she served as the center’s executive staff officer for four flag-level commanders. 

She also worked in the acquisition field for more than 17 years, holding the positions of procurement agent, contract specialist, contracting officer, section chief, training coordinator and instructor of acquisition courses, as well as the chief of the plans and operational analysis branch in the contracting and production directorate.

Among 48 Department of Defense employees to complete the yearlong DoD Executive Leadership Development Program, Mary was one of three chosen to brief the undersecretary of defense for personnel and readiness.
