Paul Timmreck, M.P.A., brings 30 years of experience working for the commonwealth of Virginia to his position as Virginia Executive Institute director. Most recently, he retired as senior vice president for finance and administration at VCU and special adviser to the chief executive officer of the VCU Health System.
Prior to joining VCU, Paul served as the secretary of finance for Virginia Govs. George F. Allen and L. Douglas Wilder. Twice during this time, Financial World magazine named Virginia one of the two best-managed states in the nation. He also served as the director of the Department of Planning and Budget to Govs. Gerald Baliles and Charles Robb.
Paul has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Toll Fellowship of the Council of State Governments and the T. Edward Temple Award for Distinguished Service. He began his career in public service with a two-year stint as a Peace Corps volunteer in Maracay, Venezuela.
He is now serving his second five-year appointment as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Retirement System. Gov. Timothy M. Kaine also reappointed Paul to serve a two-year term as chair of the VRS Board.
